What is a diesel engine?

Classification of diesel engines

How diesel engines work

The key to a diesel engine is compression ignition. During operation, the air in the cylinder is compressed to extremely high pressure, and then fuel is injected through the high-pressure injection system. The fuel spontaneously ignites without the need for an igniter due to the rapid expansion of the gas upon heating. This process is called autoignition, and it ensures efficient energy conversion.
